Peter Balhar (2001) is a drummer, composer and producer from Prague, working across Europe. He moves between avant-garde, noise-punk, jazz, pop, and performance art—marked by volatile shifts from raw aggression to fragile intimacy.

Balhar’s journey has been full of unexpected twists: originally a jazz musician who embraced pure acoustic free-improvisation, he eventually settled into produced electro-acoustic music. He now focuses primarily on utilizing advanced sampling techniques within his Sunhouse Sensory Percussion setup—working with the sounds of Instagram reels and “plunderphonising” his own music to surrealise the acoustic experience. To materialise his visions, he works in solo and octet formats.

With his band Trio Henya, he has recorded for Czech Radio and Radio Belgrade, and represented Czech jazz at the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival (2024). He played in the improvisation orchestra PMP, which has worked with Anthony Braxton and Roscoe Mitchell. Peter has collaborated with performance artists across Europe, including Berlin-based Lorena Izquierdo. He is part of the European Music Collective and released music on the Belgian label Klankhaven and the Czech label Ma.

He obtained his Master of Music from RMC in Copenhagen, in 2025.

Among others, he studied with Petter Eldh, Nick Dunston, Lotte Anker, Kasper Tranberg, Jim Black, Christian Lillinger, Ari Hoenig, Kresten Osgood, and Burkhard Beins.
